The Leica R lenses rehoused by TLS are built around a balance of precision and character. Originally designed for still photography, they have been adapted for cinema use while maintaining their distinctive Leica rendering. Available for rent in Berlin at RGB Rental.

The image is clean, but never clinical. Leica R lenses are known for their natural color reproduction, subtle contrast and a smooth falloff that gives the image a sense of depth without feeling overly stylized. Skin tones remain accurate, while highlights roll off gently.

Compared to more vintage optics, the look is more controlled, but still carries enough character to avoid feeling sterile. The lenses sit comfortably between modern precision and older, more expressive glass.

Rehoused by TLS, the set is fully cine-ready, with consistent mechanics, focus gears and reliable handling across all focal lengths. This makes them suitable for professional productions where both image quality and usability on set are important.

They react predictably to light. Flares are present but controlled, and the image remains stable across different lighting conditions, making them easy to integrate into a wide range of shooting environments. The Leica R TLS set works well for narrative, commercial and documentary projects where a natural, refined image is needed without pushing too far into either a vintage or clinical direction.
