The Angénieux EZ Series, introduced in 2016, is a line of lightweight cinema zoom lenses designed for flexibility across different formats and workflows. Built around a modular concept, the lenses can be used in both Super 35 and Full Frame/VistaVision configurations by swapping the rear optical block.
The longer zoom covers 45–135mm at T3 in full-frame mode (up to a 46mm image circle). By changing the rear element, it becomes a 30–90mm T2 lens for Super 35. The same applies to the wide zoom, which shifts from 22–60mm T3 (FF) to 15–40mm T2 (S35), making the set highly adaptable for different camera setups.
Optically, the EZ series delivers a clean and consistent image across the zoom range. Sharpness is high, contrast is well controlled and color rendering remains neutral, allowing the lenses to integrate easily into modern digital cinema workflows. The image feels precise without becoming overly clinical.
The lenses are designed for practical use on set. Their lightweight construction and fast operation make them well suited for handheld work, gimbal setups and situations where flexibility matters. The ability to switch between formats without changing the lens adds another level of efficiency in production.
Rather than imposing a strong character, the EZ series provides a reliable and controlled image that can be shaped through lighting and grading. They are a strong choice for narrative, commercial and documentary work where consistency and versatility are key.
