The Cooke miniS4/i lenses deliver the signature Cooke look in a smaller and more lightweight form factor. They feature the same warm color rendition, gentle contrast and smooth fall-off as the full-size S4/i series, but in a more agile housing ideal for handheld, Steadicam, gimbal or documentary work.
Originally released in 2009 under the name Panchro/i, these lenses were rebranded to miniS4/i in 2012. The change became necessary when Cooke began developing the later Panchro/i Classic series (introduced in 2016), which recreated the vintage Speed Panchro aesthetic. This overlap in naming caused confusion in the market — two very different lens designs sharing the Panchro name — so Cooke officially renamed the T2.8 set to miniS4/i.
Compared to the S4/i, the miniS4/i lenses are approximately 20% smaller and lighter, making them more practical for owner-operators and mobile productions. They are slightly slower at T2.8 instead of T2.0, and the series is limited to 10 focal lengths, but optically they remain fully color-matched to S4/i, S7/i and Panchro/i Classic lenses.
In short: the miniS4/i offers the same trusted Cooke character and precision — just more compact, more affordable and easier to work with on set.
