Canon FD lenses have become a favorite among cinematographers, especially for Full Frame productions. The 24mm T1.4, 55mm T1.2, and 85mm T1.2 aspherical lenses are closely related to the legendary Canon K35s. They share a beautiful, soft and organic look, with gentle contrast, pleasing skin tones and a unique character that makes them so popular today.
Our set has been carefully put together to offer a consistent look across different focal lengths, while keeping the individual character of each lens. One of the more unusual additions is the rare 45mm Yashica optic, which fits beautifully into the set and adds another interesting option between the classic focal lengths. The 100mm is another highlight, offering an exceptionally good close focus that makes it particularly useful for intimate close-ups and detail shots.
All lenses have been professionally rehoused by TLS. The original 8-blade irises have been replaced with new 16-blade irises, keeping the bokeh beautifully circular even when stopping down. The rehousing also provides precise mechanics, consistent handling and the reliability needed on modern film sets.
Canon introduced the FD system in 1971, and over the following two decades produced an impressive range of lenses. With so many different optical designs and versions of the same focal lengths, putting together a matching set is not always easy.
For our set, we selected the optics not only for their individual qualities but also for how well they work together. Combined with the precise and robust TLS rehousing, these vintage lenses are ready for another generation of filmmaking.
The Canon FDs also pair beautifully with our Voigtländer Zoomar, making it a great addition to the set.
